Today we drove from Bertie County north to Murfreesboro, and set up the trailer at Chowan University, a very small school of 1000 students in neighboring Hertford County. We were only there for a few hours, but enjoyed a quieter day with some great conversation. After a lecture at 11am, we brought about a dozen folks out to the trailer, including Visual Arts professor Wayne Newton (and later his class), biology professor John Dilustro (who wants us to redo the computer labs!), and a student named Yosef who was interested in volunteering with us in Bertie County. We had a chance to talk to Yosef, who was just accepted to the NC State Graphic Design program, and he expressed his interest in seeing design benefit the rural, poor, forgotten counties right here in North Carolina and the South in general.
After a meal at the school’s cafeteria and a meeting with another class (of four students), we packed up shop and hit the road once more, back to Bertie for a few more days. We also left a book with the school to put in their library. Thanks so much to Jennifer Groves for helping to coordinate!

We’re excited to announce the addition of our 28th school to the itinerary. We will be visiting Chowan University in Murfreesboro, North Carolina on March 8, 2010. View Chowan’s info page here to track future updates on the Airstream parking spot and lecture time.
